I had bought an old yacht that had an old wind generator at the stern and a couple of car batteries. The generator produced 12 volt DC which kept the batteries charged, provided power for the vhf radio and the 12v lighting, but was useless for many things that I'd brought from home and put on board, so I had to find a way of converting the 12v DC power that I had into 230 volt AC power that was good for all the things that ran on mains power. This did the job nicely. It provides power to run my laptop, charge my mobile phone, boil the electric kettle and run my electric razor. No doubt I will find a good number of other things to run off it, too.One point that has to be made is the fact that this invertor provides 2kW. Many common things that run on mains electricity require more than 2kW, and while this will often produce more than necessary for a very short period of time, it will not maintain it for very long. It would therefore be wise to check out all the things that you intend to run from this invertor, and run as few things as you can at one time to ensure that you are not taking too much power from it. If you are going to use more power, then get one that is suitable for your needs.
